A finished yard still needs attention. Turf and paving have different care needs, and the correct routine depends on the materials and installation system actually used. Keep the manufacturer’s instructions with your project documents, then build a manageable habit around keeping surfaces clear and noticing changes early.
This guide helps organize that routine. Product-specific instructions take priority over a general checklist, especially for cleaners, infill, joint materials, and sealers.
Start with a useful handover record
Before the project closes, ask for the exact turf product, infill, paver material, jointing product, and any sealer used. Keep color and finish names as well as product names. Save the dated proposal, approved changes, care sheets, warranty terms, and contact details in one place.
Ask which tasks you can do yourself and which deserve a qualified review. Have any restrictions explained before buying a cleaner or renting equipment. A general promise of “low maintenance” does not tell you which brush to use, how a stain should be approached, or whether a product is compatible with a surface.
Take a set of clear photographs of the completed area. Include the overall layout, material transitions, accessible drains, and any feature you discussed during handover. Those images can provide useful context if something changes later.
Keep loose material from accumulating
Choose a regular time to look over the lawn and paving. The appropriate frequency will depend on tree cover, use, pets, and weather; a fixed schedule does not fit every property. Check again after a storm or an unusually busy gathering.

For the paved areas, include the corners behind furniture and the edges beside planted beds in your regular check. Move light furnishings as needed to see the surface underneath. Look for loose material at visible drain openings without disturbing or dismantling the drainage system.
Treat pet use as a separate care question
If pets use the turf, ask for a written routine suited to the product, infill, number of animals, and frequency of use. Keep waste pickup supplies convenient and follow the supplied instructions for rinsing or approved cleaning products.

If odor persists despite following those instructions, record when it occurs, where it is strongest, and what has already been tried. Share that information before adding a stronger chemical or several products. Do not assume an odor-control product removes the need for routine cleaning.
Match cleaning to the actual paver
Identify the material before treating a mark. Concrete paving, natural stone, porcelain, jointing products, and surface treatments should not be treated as interchangeable. Keep the label and instructions for any cleaner you use, and confirm compatibility with every surface it may touch.
Belgard recommends testing a cleaning product in an inconspicuous area and following its label. Its care guidance also warns that forceful pressure washing can affect the paver surface. Avoid letting trial-and-error cleaning become a new problem. Photograph the mark first, describe its likely source if known, and explain any prior treatment when asking for help. Keep people and pets away from a treated area according to the product instructions.
Notice joints, edges, and changes in level
Include the joints and perimeter in your inspection. Note new gaps, visibly missing joint material, rocking units, lifted edges, or a change at the turf-to-paver junction. Do not treat a newly uneven area as only a cosmetic issue.

When something changes, take an overall photograph and a close view. Record the date, recent weather, and whether the area is getting worse. Keep people away from a tripping hazard while you arrange a review. Avoid covering the symptom before the cause has been considered.
Keep water and surface treatments in the record
If water begins collecting in a new place, note its location and how long it remains. Check for an obvious visible obstruction without making unplanned alterations. Report recurring changes so the relevant grade, drain, edge, or installation detail can be assessed.
Do not adopt a universal resealing schedule. Ask whether the selected material needs a sealer, which product is compatible, what appearance it creates, and what conditions govern future application. Keep a dated record of any treatment. That record helps prevent an incompatible product being added later.
